Spring Giveaway Week: Win a Royal Berkey Water Filtration System from LPC Survival ($283 Value)
There are few things more basic for human survival and health than having clean water to drink.
My experience in the Philippines last spring reminded me afresh of how much we take it for granted that we do not have to struggle daily to access clean water, or for that matter, to access water at all. Those of us in North America or other developed parts of the world have such an incredible privilege of being able to turn on a tap to find drinkable water, safe from most types of bacteria, parasites, and disease.
Yet, even our water is not ideal. Run-off from commercial agriculture includes herbicides and pesticides. An alarming number of pharmaceutical drugs have been found in tap water. Then there are concerns over exposure to various heavy metals, among a host of other contaminants found even in our “clean” water.
Our family has always chosen to have some sort of water filtration system, even if it’s a very simple and inexpensive system like a Brita or PUR filter. A little over a year ago, we chose to upgrade to a Berkey system, based on many rave reviews that I had read, research and information provided by Berkey, and the fact that a number of health-minded companies I respected carried the Berkey line and highly recommended it.
A year later, I’m still so happy with our choice. Our Berkey Light is used constantly. The water tastes so fresh and pure. Friends and family that visit have commented on the wonderful taste.
The large capacity of the system is perfect for a family, as we can usually get away with refilling it about once per day (sometimes more if I’m using it for cooking water). It filters quite fast, although the best way to do it is to fill it before going to bed at night, for a full system of filtered water in the morning.

I love that the filters are self-sterilizing and that they can actually be cleaned when they the filtration rate begins to slow down. You simply take them out, rub them with ScotchBright pads under running water, and put them back in. A set of two filters (each system uses two at once) will last for 6,000 gallons!

I grew up in Mount Pleasant, SC and recently moved to Columbia, SC and the water is so much more ‘hard’ than what I’m used to from the ultra clean Mt. P water. I like that it removes lead from the water. Living in an old city, I know my water is traveling through some REALLY old pipes, so I’m sure there are some pretty scary ramifications.

I would LOVE to win one! We live in a rural area, where there is a lot of farming, and so I’m almost sure there are herbicides and pesticides in our well-water. And with 5 kids, who drink water almost exclusively, I just try not to think about the contaminants as we just can’t afford a good filtration system right now. I would LOVE to win!

Our family has been discussing a way to deal with the water issue. I stopped buying bottled water and we’ve tried the brita dispenser, but we need a better way!
What a great give away! I have been wanting a kitchen sink type of filter for a while. We have one on our frig, but this would be great to use for all of our cooking.
We are actually saving our Amazon gift cards from swagbucks for one of these! Our family wants to have one of these in case of an emergency, as well as to have clean water at all times. I love that you can pour pond water (minus the tadpoles) in the top, and have perfectly drinkable water at the bottom!

Wow! I would LOVE a Royal Berkey Water Filtration System! A friend of mine has one & she just loves it! It is way out of our price range though. I’ve been following a special diet to control my MS symptoms for almost 4 years now, & have recently started all of making my own cleaners (have been doing the basics for 1 year), shampoo, deodorant & lotions in attempts to improve my remaining symptoms. I have LOVED doing all of this! I don’t know if I would have started on this “journey” or not otherwise, but I am SO glad I have! I’ve been starting to do more research on what exactly is in our water to make it safe, and all the chemicals that are considered hazardous elsewhere are going into the drinking water to keep it clean! I love that this water filtration system is lightweight, portable, and works even if there is no electricity. I’m also intrigued that the filters are self sterilizing and re-cleanable. The percentage of removal of harmful elements in our water also impresses me. I am interested in the system as gas drilling in the area poses a potential threat to water purity…I would feel confident with this purification system that our water would be safe to drink. I couldn’t find the Berkey guy on fb. I’d love the water system. I had another system and this sounds better, besides mine needs new filters and they quit making parts. So, anyone who puts out a quality product and stays around, gets my vote!
The brita isn’t quite cutting it anymore. I hate having to buy replacement filters and usually forget to change them often enough to do much good.
I like the fact that the light doesn’t leach harmful plastic chemicals into the water and it looks like it would clean more of the chemicals than my Brita.
We just moved into town and now have city water. I smell the chlorine in it and who knows what else is lurking in the water. It just doesn’t taste right. I don’t want my toddler drinking the water much else all the other family. This would be a great system to use for our drinking needs and peace of mind.

Hi! I just found your blog and I am excited to explore it more! I would love to win a Berkey light water filtration system because our family has been talking about getting some sort of filtration system for some time. There are so many to choose from and I took a break from searching. I like the idea that this is something you can take with you easily if you move. I was looking at the under sink options, but they get so expensive and there are so many features to choose from! I just want something that works and is not a gimmick. Even if it’s inexpensive, it needs to work or it’s still a waste of money! So this looks like the perfect option to start with to enter the world of water filtration!

One of my friends owns the Berkey filter and loves it. We considered it, but the price was a little high for us at this point. However it really works! What’s more, I like that it can contain so much water, thus reducing the amount of refills.

We actually used one like this for years and it was really great! Buying filtered water is so expensive. After our filter similar to this finally met its end, we got an under-sink filter, but it wastes water. I’d like to have a counter-top filter like this again.

we have a glass jug that sits on the counter next to the sink. We fill ours every 2 to 3 days. We have a filter on our sink and we use an extra filter when we put water in the jug. I would love a Berkley water system as it would get out more “chemicals” than my 7 stages do now.

I think the Berkey system will filter out more than we currently get with a simple filter. Cleaner water would be great, if we can figure out where to put the Berkey in our kitchen.
One of our big issues is water during a power outage, whether it be caused by extreme weather or a traffic accident or whatever. We have water, but it’s not clean enough to drink. I’d like one of these for our emergency preparedness, so we could filter water from other sources. Like the rain barrel, or – in an extreme emergency – the pond.

Our water here certainly isn’t ideal and can go “murky” at times during the winter. Not only do I wish DH and I had the money for this, I wish we had it last year, when I got sick from some…um…”nasties” in our public tap water. Apparently, cities can put whatever they want in their water and not tell you about it until 6 months later!

Our family has been talking about getting a Berkey for a while now. We just experienced a problem w/ ground water contamination in our city’s water source and for 4 months had to drink bottle water or boil water (with a family of 7 that’s a lot of water to boil). The problem has now been remedied, but our water has reeked of high chlorine levels for the last few weeks. A Berkey would be of great benefit to us 🙂

I would love to win this Berkey system because we have to drink water that has several times, killed the goldfish that live in our water tank for our horses. I used this kind of filtration system (different brand) starting in 2000. A couple years ago I upgraded to the Berkey. It is amazing the difference in the water that comes out. I would like to have a second system for a lake cabin, and for emergency preparedness.

I have been thinking about updating our filtration system, a Brita pitcher, for a while. I use it for cooking and often I will have to wait for 2-3 refills before using it again and then inevitably my husband will walk in and NEED a drink of water right then. We live in an old house with old plumbing (1937!) and so I know we need better filtration, I just haven’t found the right thing yet. This may work for us.

My daughter works in an orphanage in Zimbabwe, near Masvingo. The water there is bad, and has to be boiled. Sometimes the children get sick anyway. This would be a huge blessing for the orphans!

Currently we are using a water cooler. We refill the jugs from a glacier water machine outside the grocery store. Not the best I know, but it has to be better than plain tap water.

My family loves to drink sweet, filtered water. Our water has a bit of a chlorine taste from the city supply. I think Berkey would be an excellent fit for us. 🙂
We are on a well system and cannot drink our water because of high iron and sulphur content, so right now we are constantly having to go and get drinking water. A Berkey would be awesome to have and then we don’t have to worry about “running out” of drinking water.

What a most excellent give away. I have been wanting one of these for a while. I live in San Diego and have horrible municipal water that not only is fluoridated, but contains chlorine and chloramine. I’ve been on a quest to improve my family’s health, one gadget at a time and our water is the elephant in the room. I keep overlooking it because it’s clear and “clean,” but it is so loaded with chemicals that it smells like pool water coming out of the tap and that can’t be good for anyone.

Ever since seeing one at my MIL’s house, I’ve wanted a Berkey to upgrade from our current filtration system and to remove flouride from our drinking water.

We would LOVE to win this fabulous water filtration system! We have a reverse osmosis under our kitchen sink for drinking water but I am sure that it is not getting out all of the nasty bacteria and minerals in the well water here. We had a UV light but that has burned out and we cannot afford anything, let alone repairing that.

I love that the filter is good for 6000 gallons. So easy. I also didn’t realize they are as compact as they are. The picture always makes it look so big. This could actually fit in to our home somewhere.

At first I wasn’t sure this would work for me as I am currently looking for a water filter that removes all the usual suspects PLUS fluoride. It seems that most do not; however, I was happy to see that LPC does offer add-on filters that do remove a large percentage of the fluoride (and arsenic) from the water source. So while I would still need to spend a little money on this filter setup, it would beat having to buy the whole kit-n-kaboodle!

I’d love a Berkey because our water tastes gross. I figure if it tastes gross, it probably is gross. A Berkey would make things so much easier because of its large size–it takes forever to get fridge-filtered water for chicken broth or beans or pasta 🙂

We’ve had a berkey filter for almost two years now. We’ve had some issues with it but I still like the product and appreciate being able to filter chlorine and fluoride in addition to other toxins in the water. I’ve wanted a top-notch water purifier for camping and emergency preparedness reasons for years, but it has never made it to the top of my budget list!! I would also be happier to improve my everyday drinking water, which I already filter, but which has no guarantee of removal of all the substances that the Berkey does. Our water comes from the Rio Grande River and even though it’s been filtered through the city, we will not drink it because we know there’s no way it is completely safe! I would love to be able to stop paying for our drinking water (we use 5 gallon containers with a dispenser – no bottles here!)!

I, too, have been building up a survival kit for my family, and coming from the Philippines, I also understand how critically important it is to get clean water (and how difficult it can get). In fact, when I was a child, I didn’t listen to my mother when we went back to visit the little town we’re from, and I bought something at a local store that wasn’t made with the cleanest water. Needless to say, I learned my lesson quickly and painfully. I’ve been researching different water purifying systems, and I have to admit that I didn’t hear about this one until you blogged about it. Now I’m intrigued. I love how you can clean the filter and how the filters last for quite some time. I would love to win this. I know it’s a long shot, but if I do win, I would be very appreciative.

To be totally honest, I never worried about our water until our little six year old was diagnosed with cancer. We buy spring water now because we live in an older farmhouse. The challenge is having the spring water here for all of our cooking and drinking needs.

My husband thinks buying a Berkey will not be much difference to our health. He seems to think pure water doesn’t exist. He used to work for a city water treatment and he believes the water is safe for consumption as is, and our fridge water filter is good enough. We also do not have the money for an expensive equipment. I would love to win this just because I don’t want to push this issue. I just know his health, and our health would be better if we can drink better water.

Our tap water tastes terrible. Our temporary (though going on many years now) solution was to use a brita filter but I don’t love the plastic and don’t feel like it does a great job. For a while, we bought water in reusable plastic jugs–until I learned about BPA! We’ve looked at undersink filters and I haven’t happy with all the cons. This looks like a great solution!

We get notices every 2-3 months saying that there’s too much arsenic in the water, and an update when the city’s arsenic filter will be completed. Being able to filter our own water instead of having to drive to the store to buy bottled water every few days would be a wonderful blessing.

I’ve had my eye on a Berkey filter for awhile. I currently have a GE refrigerator with a filter that removes many of the same things the Berkey removes ? except fluoride. I would love to eliminate that from our water!

The Berkey is wonderful and easy to use. I’ve had a small portable one that goes camping with me. No matter how nasty the water is I always have confidence I can safely drink it. I would LOVE to have this one for Our home
