Note from Ann: Janie is my personal mentor. You may have read my post, When Your Child Needs Healing, where I shared that every person in my immediate family, as well as several extended family members and friends all seek guidance from mentors. Many have gained wisdom and love and healing from time spent with Janie. In fact, Janie has so much wisdom and love to share with women that she has written a book, Spa Treatments for Your Body and Soul, to share how you too can take care of your soul and really fill yourself up with a renewing spirit to transform your life. If you are interested in more from Janie, visit her today at JanieSeltzer.com to get her free mini-book REFRESH! Let me hear of your unfailing love

The hushed tones of a spa reflect the same kind of conditions that best enable us to hear God—who speaks in hushed tones deep within our souls. . .

Listen

the voice is small

STILL

whispers of truth

to the timid will.

real it comes,

TRUST the love—

a dove of wonder

hovers-

DISCOVER!

To hear God we need to find a place where we can escape the noises of our world. Everyone can find a quiet place—or at least a private place—if they try. A mentor of mine once said that we all do what we want to do—and for many years and in many different circumstances I have found that she was right!

An even bigger challenge is quieting the noises within our anxious minds.

I like to think of the mental clutter as yellow chicks:

In SOLITUDE, I gather up

all the loose ends of my soul

like yellow chicks that scurry

          and flurry in all directions.

I gather each one and tuck them

under my wings where they must

WAIT to be reordered according to

some grand scheme that I cannot see

and do not know

but works when I trust

AND FOLLOW IT.

Hearing from God is worth the effort. Our restless and frazzled minds are soothed in the presence of God as we read and listen to His Word. The Bible is a love letter to us. Open it and read. You will find truth to live by. You will find encouragement and grace as soothing as an amazing head massage administered by loving, skillful hands . . . shhhhhhh . . . listen.

Hearing poem

How do you enjoy hearing from God? Where do you find the silence to hear His voice?

  1. God, has spoken through the Scripture. When I read my Bible & only when I read my Bible do I truly hear from God. I got involved in the pagan practices of silencing your mind and New Age style meditation in the past but all that did was allow my sinful mind to make up what I wanted to hear God say. The “still, small voice” passage so many people try to use as the method of hearing God speak, is a descriptive passage about one specific occurrence that happened to one specific man. It is not conscriptive passage giving us instructions on how to “hear” from God. We are not commanded to seek a “still, small voice” from God. We are to contemplate and ruminate on God’s Word, not “quite our minds” and wait for God to “speak” to us. It took a while for me to learn that and I only learned it from digging into Scripture and practicing proper hermeneutics.
