The Crown of Wisdom and How to Get It
Note from Ann: I can’t help but love how Janie ties in the crown of wisdom with the nutritious benefits of honeycomb…here’s hoping you find these insights helpful (and that you have access to some yummy and good-for-you honeycomb!). <3
Little girls love to dress up like princesses and queens with sparkling crowns on their heads. They also love to fantasize about being loved and cherished by a handsome prince who comes galloping in on a glorious white horse to rescue them from danger.
This is the stuff of fairy tales.
But those desires are rooted in the deepest desires of a girl’s heart . . . and often become buried under a pile of rubble as a result of the challenges and disappointments of life.
Yet, in God’s world, there is truly a crown that may be placed on your head – a radiant crown that sparkles with royal jewels.
It is the crown of wisdom.
I encourage you to take a moment to read Proverbs chapter 4:5-13. Here are some of the highlights:
“Don’t turn your back on wisdom for she will protect. If you love her and she will guard you.”
“If you prize wisdom, she will make you great. Embrace her and she will honor you. She will place a lovely wreath on your head. She will present you with a beautiful crown.”
Like many communities, my little seaside town Carlsbad, California, has a weekly farmer’s market that I love to visit with my sweet little buddy, a Golden/Cocker Spaniel mix who trots by my side. His name is Rudy (I call him cutie Rudy).
Rudy and I go to the farmer’s market, largely for one reason: to buy the honeycomb! In one of the booths on the State Street is a local honey seller. The honey is wonderful and healthy. It is loaded with important nutrition to keep us healthy.
They offer different varieties depending upon the flower that the bees swarm to. But the greatest treasure, above all, is the honeycomb. Honeycomb is the greatest source of powerful nutrition. I eat little bits of it each day — yum!
Now, listen up:
Wisdom is the honeycomb of life!
It is better than knowledge because wisdom is the application of knowledge. Wisdom is the rudder of the boat of life. It will help you navigate all of the dangerous white water that you will encounter.
Jesus never promised completely smooth seas. He said: “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
So would you like to have this crown placed upon your head and wonder how? Here’s what you need to know:
Jesus is the wisdom of God.
I like to think of Him as the alphabet of wisdom. Colossians 2:2-3 says: “May you have the full riches of complete understanding… know the mystery of God and the wisdom of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
So where do you begin? Daily turn in your heart to Jesus. Let him be your Prince! He is the one who can give you all of the deepest desires of your heart.
Turn your face towards Him every day… listen to the His word. Listen also the promptings of the Spirit of God. You will begin slowly but surely to receive the crown.
“Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment” (Proverbs 4:7).
