My Mommy, my teacher
My little guy is having a hard time with teething today, it seems, so I thought I’d just post a quick review of a beautiful little book that Abbie was given for her birthday last week.
It’s called My mommy, my teacher and it is written and illustrated by Johannah Bluedorn, a homeschool "graduate". It is a high quality, hardback picture book, told from the point of view of a 7 year old girl, as she describes her life, family and education.
What I loved about the book was how it portrays the simplicity and beauty of living within a larger family, being home educated, and the values of honoring one’s parents and enjoying creative play and hard work. It has a quaint, old-fashioned feel, and looks as though it is set in the 1800’s. The setting is rural, the home simple, and the women wear dresses and keep the home. The storyline is simple, and although it is at an elementary reading level, it appealed to my 3 year old very much, who loved pointing out the details of the illustrations.
If you’re interested, it is available through Amazon. And now, back to the wonderful world of teething.
You have a really nice blog! I’m a health-conscious homeschool mom too! Thanks for sharing.
