Introducing the Nourishing Gourmet
One of my favorite bloggers, Kimi of Womanly Pursuits, has recently launched an exciting new blog that I wanted to share with you all!
When it comes to nutrition, cooking and natural living, she and I have many similarities and common passions. So I was delighted to find out that she had created a cooking and recipes blog. I’ve asked her to let you know a little bit more about her new blog and what you can expect to find:
1) Why did you create this blog?
I
have always enjoyed cooking. I worked at a little bakery when I was 15
for around a year and a half. Shortly after that, because of my
mother’s health crisis, I took over the meal planning for our family.
From the beginning I made from scratch, healthy cooking. My cooking
style has changed since I was in High School, but I still have the same
aim, healthy cooking that tastes great!
I have recently, as my cooking skills have continued to develop,
been able to start creating my own recipes. This has been a very fun
adventure. I also am always trying new recipes. Since I do both of
these things on a consistent basis, I realized that I was already doing
the real work of a food blog, so why not?
The goal of my blog is to promote healthy eating habits, show ways
to make common food on our table more healthy, and to encourage others
to try new things!
2) What types of recipes do you plan to feature?
I cook a
very wide range of different tastes and cultures and also like just
plain "homecooking" too. I love both the simple dinners ( like roast
chicken, rice and salad) and; exotic dinners (Asian, Indian, I even
have a Russian cookbook I am reading through right now). The three
"criteria", if you will, for recipes I post are :nourishing,
satisfying, and gourmet.
3) What books and/or ideas have influenced your nutritional philosophy and practices?
I
love Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon and follow as many of her
principles that I can. This cookbook has been very influential in my
kitchen.
I also love The Barefoot Contessa, and the magazines Gourmet and
Bon Appetit for their approach to cooking with fresh ingredients.
The Body Ecology Diet has also taught; me a lot. This is where I learned to
appreciate some of the non-gluten grains such as quinoa, millet, and
buckwheat.
4) What does "healthy eating" mean to you?
Healthy eating
definitely does not mean low-fat. Healthy means good fats, fresh
ingredients, low sugar forming foods, prepared using traditional
methods. Healthy, done right, is exciting and entirely satisfying.
5) What is your current favorite recipe?
This is a
hard question because I am always trying new things! But there are some
recipes that we keep coming back too. My Root cobbler with Millet
dumplings is one of them. I also have been doing my Crockpot Chicken
and Quinoa a lot (which I plan on doing an updated variation on
soon!). I will also soon be starting a series called "My Favorite
Dinner" where I, and other guests, will be sharing their favorite
dinners. I plan on featuring a savory carrot salad and roast chicken
with gravy for that. This is a meal we did every week for a long time.
Mmmm… sounds so good. I’m trying her Crockpot Chicken and Quinoa this weekend and I can’t wait! Please go and get acquainted with Kimi at The Nourishing Gourmet!
Stephanie – what a great post! I love the heart of this friend and will take a coffe break to visit her blog. You’ve got such good stuff here! 🙂
Hi Stephanie,
It seems we share same passion.
Love for food has made me starting to cook and bake event build a culinary portal called Portal Kuliner. But what I love most is to meet and greet other people who share the same passion like you.
