Thanksgiving is truly my favorite holiday. In fact, it is the one holiday my husband and I ask the entire family to come over and celebrate what we are most grateful for while eating delicious food surrounded by gorgeous and natural Fall decor. Can we say YUM and how THANKFUL we are for good food, good friends, and a beautiful family? Amen and Gobble-Gobble.
I was inspired this year to collect my favorite Thanksgiving things into one place. Here they are…and I’d love to hear what yours are too!
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Keeper of the Home!
By Hilary Bernstein, Contributing Writer Growing up, Thanksgiving dinner was a wonderful time with family and plenty of food. Yet many of the dishes served were made with processed food: Green bean casserole made with cream of mushroom soup and French fried onions, Pre-made rolls, Gravy from a jar, Canned sweet potatoes topped with brown…
Guest post by Tiffany Terczak I’ll be the first to admit — this is the time of year when we typically throw caution out the window. I’m rereading Ann Voskamp’s One Thousand Gifts and I am reminded of how true this is. Written by Sherri Cook, Contributing Writer The day after Thanksgiving when friends jokingly ask me if I’m finished with my Christmas shopping, I can always surprise them with an answer in the affirmative. At my house, not only have we finished the shopping, we’ve also finished the wrapping as well as the unwrapping. How do we…
Preserving season is in full swing! I’ve taken a brief break from it myself the past couple of weeks, after a busy bout of preserving in July. Now it’s time to jump back in with both feet, as I get set to tackle pears, peaches, tomatoes, pickles, herbs, apples and probably more. Wanting to provide…
I was just commenting to my husband last night that my traffic seems oddly low and slow. He wisely said, "Hmm, maybe because it's American Thanksgiving tomorrow." Oh yeah. You think? 🙂 I hope y'all are thoroughly enjoying wonderful times with your loved ones, and please, a second helping of turkey and pumpkin pie, just…

I suppose “rustic” is just a fancy way of saying that I make mashed potatoes with the skins on. Why keep the skins, you ask? Not only does it make the name sound fancier, it also makes for a more nutritious mashed potato. The skins house most of the nutrients in the humble potato, including:…
